Ears (make 2)
Work two parts for each ear: the first part in a contrasting color, the second in the main color:

  1. 7 sc in KA
  2. 7 inc (14)
  3. (1 sc, inc) x 7 (21)
  4. (2 sc, inc) x 7 (28)

Do not cut the yarn after the second part. Fold both parts together with the wrong sides facing, and work around with hdc through both parts. Leave a tail for sewing.

  18. (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12) stop crocheting
  19. Attach the yarn at the bottom (where you stopped), and start crocheting the trunk. I label trunk rows as 1r, 2r, etc.

Close the opening, do not stuff the trunk. Return to the head and continue working where you left off. You can also crochet the trunk after closing the toy, the principle won’t change.

Insert eyes in the 10th row or along the sides of the trunk, and stuff the head. Continue crocheting the body.

  11. 30 sc
  12. 30 sc
  13. (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
  14. (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
    Stuff the toy completely.
  15. (1 sc, dec) x 6 (12)
  16. 6 dec

Pull the opening closed, hide the yarn.

Finishing the Toy
Make a face shaping that suits you, embroider whites of the eyes, eyelashes, eyebrows, and contrasting stripes on the trunk.

Sew the ears in the 6th row from the KA, leaving 4 sc between the eyes. Before sewing, fold the ear in half and join the two sides with two stitches.

The tip of the trunk can be sewn or glued slightly to prevent it from sticking out. Tie a bow.
