Free Amigurumi Baby Elephants Crochet Pattern

Difficulty Level: Easy

Using this pattern, you can crochet small plush elephants with flowers using a hook. You will need any plush yarn and a 3.5 mm hook for amigurumi. Only one color of yarn is required for each elephant. The yarn consumption is small, and the toy crochets fairly quickly. The trunk and head are crocheted in one piece, and the ears are crocheted in as well. For decoration, you can crochet a flower or a scarf.

Materials and Tools:

  • Plush yarn (for the elephant)
  • Cotton or semi-cotton yarn (for the flower)
  • Black thread for embroidering the face
  • 3.5 mm hook
  • 10 mm safety eyes
  • Toy stuffing
  • Stitch markers
  • Pins
  • Bead for flower decoration
  • Needle for sewing details
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • KA — amigurumi ring
  • sl st — slip stitch
  • ch — chain stitch
  • sc — single crochet
  • inc — increase
  • dec — decrease
  • (…) x n times — repeat n times

Pattern for Crocheting Baby Elephants

Ears (2 pieces):

  1. 6 sc in KA
  2. 6 inc = 12 sc
  3. (1 sc, inc) х 6 = 18 sc
  4. 18 sc

Head:

Insert safety eyes between the 7th and 8th rows, with a gap of 4-5 sc between them.

Begin crocheting the head from the trunk.

  1. 5 sc in KA
    2-3. 5 sc
  2. inc, 4 sc = 6 sc
  3. (1 sc, inc) х 3 = 9 sc
  4. (2 sc, inc) х 3 = 12 sc
  5. (3 sc, inc) х 3 = 15 sc
  6. 5 inc, 10 sc = 20 sc
  7. (inc, 2 sc) х 3, inc, 10 sc = 24 sc
  8. (3 sc, inc) х 6 = 30 sc
  9. 30 sc
  10. Crochet in the ears. You might need to make shift stitches to ensure the ears are symmetrically placed. While crocheting the head, the stitch marker is at the front. My stitch count is: 12 sc, 3 sc together with the ear, 12 sc, 3 sc with the ear.
    13-14. 30 sc
  11. (3 sc, dec) х 6 = 24 sc
  12. (2 sc, dec) х 6 = 18 sc
  13. (1 sc, dec) х 6 = 12 sc
  14. 6 dec = 6 sc

Pull tight.

Arms:

  1. 6 sc in KA
    2-4. 6 sc
Fold in half and crochet 2 sc together.

Legs-Body:

Make 2 legs.

  1. 6 sc in KA
  2. (1 sc, inc) х 3 = 9 sc
    3-4. 9 sc
  3. From the second leg, chain and join to the first leg: 9 sc around the leg, 1 sc along the chain, 9 sc around the second leg, sc along the chain = 20 sc. Place the stitch marker at the back.
  4. 4 sc, inc, 4 sc, 2 inc, 4 sc, inc, 4 sc = 24 sc
  5. For the tail: chain 3 from the second leg, sc, then 23 sc = 24 sc
  6. 4 sc, dec, 4 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc, dec, 4 sc = 20 sc
  7. 4 sc, dec, 6 sc, dec, 6 sc = 18 sc
    10-11. 18 sc
  8. Crochet in the arms (your count may vary, just ensure it’s symmetrical): 4 sc, 2 sc together with the arm, 6 sc, 2 sc together with the arm, 4 sc.
  9. (4 sc, dec) х 3 = 15 sc

Sew the head to the body.

For decoration, you can make a flower. The author didn’t provide a specific pattern for the flower, but you can find one you like from the “Plants” section.
